Arbeidsvitaminen 75 jaar

'Arbeidsvitaminen' is the longest running radioshow in the world and in 2021 it celebrated its 75th anniversary.

To celebrate this, Circus Family was commissioned to design and built an installation consisting of 75 different radio's, one for every year 'Arbeidsvitaminen' has aired. All of these radio's combined form the number '75'.

Visitors can rotate a giant knob to select a year and this will result in playing a populair track from that year on the specific radio from that year.

My roll was to design and development the technical side of the installation. This included building a custom relais system to control 75 different radio's, replacing the lights inside the radio's with LEDs and the technical design of a control panel, including a 3D printed knob and LED indicator ring.

All technical elements of this installation are controlled from a single PC and communicatie over OSC/UDP: from the custom built 19" relais unit, the PoE LED controller in every radio up to the knob and LED's in the control panel.

During the reveal event multiple theater lights were programmed to visualise the radio currently playing. Currently the installation resides in the 'NPO Radiohuis' where all lighting comes from the radio's themselves via PoE powered UDP controllers.
